Supporting Local Ontario Farmers

October 26, 2016 By Megan Leave a Comment

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of SUBWAY® Restaurants. All opinions are 100% mine.

Supporting our local farmers is really important to us. I look forward to our Saturday morning trips to the farmer’s market as a family and we love seeing what’s in season. We also make a point to support businesses that sell local goods as well restaurants that focus on seasonal and local produce. We’ll do whatever we can to make sure we’re keeping as much farmland in our area as possible and help our local farmers.

Actually, my hubby’s secret dream is to become a a farmer. I think he’d be content farming a small piece of land, growing organic veggies and fruit. Sounds a bit idyllic, right? Farming is also hard work though! I have so much respect for our local farmers.

Since supporting our local farmers and eating locally is something I’m really passionate about, I was excited to hear that SUBWAY® Restaurants, which is such a huge chain, is making a big move toward supporting local Ontario farmers. Yay farmers!

SUBWAY® restaurants are partnering with Burnac Produce to supply Ontario’s 1300 stores with locally grown produce. This is such great news for local farmers, considering how many locations there are in the province and how many people eat subs every single day. It’s also good news for us, because research shows that local produce contains even more nutrients than imported produce. Plus, it helps keep money in our economy, which is always good.

Seriously though, who can’t argue that there’s no comparison between local fruits and veggies and imported ones? It’s why I looooovee the summer so much, with its abundance of fresh local goods.

I’ve been eating at SUBWAY® Restaurants for years and while I now just enjoy their veggie subs, I load them high with every single veggie they have. We try to avoid eating out, but inevitability, we all get busy. Life happens! I’m happy to know though that if we do go there for lunch or dinner, we’ll be supporting our local farmers and eating more locally. The environment is so important to us as a family and I love when companies do their part and strive toward sustainability. Every bit counts and when it’s a company as big as SUBWAY® Restaurants, it’s extra awesome.

Perhaps one day we’ll have our land with our own massive garden. For now, we’ll support those who grow our food near by, try to eat as local as possible, and buy from more environmental responsible companies like SUBWAY® Restaurants.

I’d love to know if you make a point in eating at places that aim to support local farmers. Tell me why it’s important to you!

To head to Subway, find a store near you.

You can also find all the nutrition info for the subs.

Making Time for Mom

Alone time. What’s that? If you’re a mom, you’re quite possible in the same boat as me. Some days, okay, most days, I feel like my needs come last in the whole scheme of things. From the second our eyes open in the morning, it’s all about the kids. Getting everyone changed and fed, answering 800… [Read More]
