Our skin is our biggest organ, so what we put on it is so incredibly important. I’m a big believer in buying products that contain only ingredients I can pronounce or ingredients I would actually eat. Products with a massive list of indecipherable ingredients tend to scare me away. I also love to support family-owned companies. So when Sola Skincare contacted me about trying out their line of organic and herbal-based, minimal ingredient products, I was looking forward to seeing how they held up. Below is an honest review of natural skincare products from Sola Skincare.
I love the diversity of Sola Skincare’s products. From baby bum balm to balancing face oil, it’s a great line for families. Sola is a family business where they really believe in using food-grade ingredients and making their items in small batches. I can vouch for this as well as the batch was hand-written on the items I received – I love that! None of their products are tested on animals, which is important to me. They also have a list of all the ingredients they use right on their website. Since these are something I’m always looking for when checking out any new company, I appreciate when it’s easy to find.
Bare Bum Balm
I was surprised by how light-weight the bare bum balm container is, and was excited to try it out. Baby skin is so delicate and sensitive so it’s important to always use natural, safe ingredients. The ingredients in the bare bum – herb-infused olive oil, coconut oil, beeswax, calendula, vitamin E, and lavender – are all some of my favourite go-to ingredients. We used straight coconut oil on both of my babies’ bums for the first month and it’s still a staple in many food and beauty products and recipes in our home. This bum balm goes on really nicely and although we luckily have not yet had to deal with any major rashes, it takes away any redness this new babe of mine has had. We’ve taken to putting it on at every diaper change to keep her skin nice and protected.
Balancing Skin Oil and Rose Hydrosol
I’m also a fan of the balancing oil from Sola. Since my hormones are working hard right now due to postpartum and breastfeeding, I know I need something to balance my skin out. I dealt with some facial flare-ups after my first child was born, so I am hoping this balancing oil can help remedy any hormonal skin issues this time. So far it seems to be working well. I mix a couple of drops in with the rose hydrosol (which is steam distilled Rosa damascena flower water) and use it every night. It’s full of nutrients, vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants, so it’s a great balancing and nourishing remedy for the skin.
Coconut Deodorant
Lastly, I recently started using Sola’s coconut deodorant. To be honest, it took me a couple of times to get used to it as it’s not in stick form, but instead in a tin that you apply with your (clean) fingertips. It goes on really well though and absorbs immediately. The main ingredients are baking soda and coconut oil, which work extremely well to naturally combat any sweat and odor. So far, I’m really liking this deodorant. I find it keeps the armpit region more dry compared to many other natural deodorants I’ve tried. Plus, I love that there are no nasty chemicals in this whatsoever and it is free of aluminum. Since there are many dangers associated with conventional antiperspirants, such as cancer, I am always on the lookout for good alternatives.
