I have to be honest. I don’t love green tea. But matcha green tea smoothies are different. I LOVE them. Matcha powder is a whole new kind of ball game compared to straight-up green tea. It is made of ground whole green tea leaves and is considered a power food. It’s full of antioxidants, boosts energy (I can vouch for that one!), helps with memory and concentration, detoxifies the body, and has been shown to increase metabolism. It’s also been proven to have relaxation and calming properties – Zen Buddhist monks drink matcha green tea to relax and meditate while still remaining alert. See, it’s amazing?!
Matcha powder on its own is a bit bitter, but once it’s mixed with something sweet like almond milk and honey or banana, it takes on a different, delicious flavour. I’m a big fan of matcha lattes as well, but my go-to matcha drink is definitely a smoothie as it packs more nutrients in there and is much more filling. Here’s my go-to recipe for an energy boosting, calming matcha smoothie:
Green Tea Matcha Smoothie
Ingredients
- 1 banana (I prefer frozen cut up beforehand but fresh works too)
- 1 cup preferred milk (I use almond)
- 2 teaspoons matcha powder
- 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup
- 2 ice-cubes
- 1 shake cinnamon
Method
Blend all of these ingredients together until smooth, pour into a glass, sprinkle with a small shake of cinnamon if desired, and drink up!
Wow. Thank you for this wonderful discovery!
