Happy Summer, friends! It’s my favourite time of the year. With Canada Day celebrations just behind us, it’s gotten me thinking about some of my favourite eco-friendly Canadian companies. We really do try to support Canadian and local as much as possible. It’s important to me, and I know it’s important to many of you as well. I often have people asking me about the best eco-friendly products, especially Canadian ones. Since it’s no secret that I love supporting my fellow Canadians, I’m all for sharing my fave brands and products with all of you. As a follow-up to a previous post with some of my fave eco Canadian products, I’m so excited to be sharing even more amazing eco-friendly Canadian companies and products with all of you. These are all ones we have used and many we use regularly. They are seriously tried, tested and true! From natural learns to beeswax food wrap to the most delicious chocolate bars and an incredible essential oil company, these are all being used (or, in the case of chocolate, eaten hehe) on a daily basis in our home.
Eco living is a pretty big part of our daily life, and I feel better knowing that the products we’re using on a daily basis are not harming our environment. Making the switch to a more natural, eco lifestyle can take time, but I find if you do it in baby steps, just like with anything, it can make the transition easier. For instance, start by focusing the cleaning products and personal hygiene products, or with skincare. One step at a time.
I’m also pumped to be able to offer a prize pack of eco Canadian goods to one lucky winner, with a sampling of all of the items I’m sharing today. You will love these! If you have any fave eco-friendly companies to add, let me know! Without further ado, my favourite eco-friendly Canadian companies and products…
Beeswax Food Wrap
Beeswax food wrap is my new favourite thing. I’m also in love with this particular one from Boho and Hobo. This small shop has both storefront and online shopping options, and their beeswax wrap is one of their top sellers. Have you tried beeswax wrap yet? Not only is it way better than plastic food wrap, this one from Boho and Hobo is also gorgeous – look at the pattern! Plastic food wrap is not only terrible for the envrionment, it’s also not good for us – those plastic chemicals can leach into our food. We’ve been using beeswax food wrap for a few years now and I am a total convert. It sticks to the side of any type of bowl or plate, and I also use it to wrap up anything else like cheese or sandwiches. This particular one is made from local beeswax and cotton, so it’s super pliable. Make sure to head on over to Boho and Hobo & check out some of the other unique eco-friendly items they sell, like wool dryer balls, glass straws, and their gorgeous yoga mats.
Caboo – Natural Paper Products
We were introduced to Caboo a few years ago when I wrote all about how to make the switch to green living on a budget. We are huge fans of this Canadian eco-friendly, bamboo paper company. We’ve tried their toilet paper, paper towels, and tissue, and love them all. I am a firm believer in natural toilet paper. All the bleach and other chemicals in traditional toilet paper is not something I want near mine or my kids’ most private regions. I’ve also found that those mainstream bleached products are very irritating, especially for those of us with sensitive skin. And while we try hard to avoid paper products and use reusable wherever possible, some times it’s just a bit tricky. Case in point: paper towels. Kids are MESSY. We already go through numerous reusable cloths a day, and for bigger spills, I find paper towels just that much better. Using Caboo, I know that I’m using ones that are eco-friendly and made from 100% recycled paper, so I feel way better about it.
Aromatic Creation – Essential Oils
Oh my goodness, I am in love with Aromatic Creation products. We have been using essential oils in our home for a number of years, including in our homemade baby wipe solution, as well as cleaning products and for personal diffusing…hello relaxing lavender at bedtime. When Aromatic Creation reached out to see if I’d be interested in trying their products, I was pumped! A Canadian essential oil company? Amazing. There are so many different oils and blends to choose from, but some of our faves so far are lavender (I diffuse it nightly beside my bed), Uplifting (a new morning ritual), Romance, and Lil’ Cherubs. I’ve also been loving my essential oil necklace. I find it especially helpful to use if I’m feeling really anxious or stressed. A few drops of oil on this baby and it really helps. My 7-year-old also really loves the necklace and enjoys helping me choose which interchangeable colour I’ll put in each day:) If you’re looking for a totally natural, safe and efficient essential oil company that is focused on purity, strong ethics, and doesn’t test on animals, I highly recommend Aromatic Creation. Yay for an amazing Canadian essential oil company.
Eco-Max Natural Cleaners
Perhaps one of the best ways to start making the switch to a greener lifestyle, is with natural and eco-friendly cleaning products. We’ve been using Eco-Max cleaners for years and years, and they are our favourite. Even better? They’re a Canadian company! I’m a big fan of their natural spearmint bathroom cleaner, their all-purpose cleaner (especially the natural orange one), and their laundry detergent. We use these on a daily basis almost, and I feel good knowing that I’m not spraying chemicals all over, but that the cleaners are truly getting the job done. They also have some great concentrated products, and we’re especially fans of the toilet bowl cleaner and floor & surface cleaner. The ingredients in all of their products are 100% plant based, non-toxic, safe for aquatic life, and biodegradable. Plus, they are safe to use around pets and children, and they don’t test on animals. Oh, and a bonus? The bottles are made from 100% recyclable packaging. *Swoon* I often buy these on well.ca but you can find them in most natural health food stores or online as well.
Oh, hello, delicious organic chocolate. We’ve been devouring Zazubean chocolate for years, and I love all the new flavours they keep coming out with. The kids are big fans of the chocolate mint (Lunatic), but my faves are are Cheeky (Banana and salted toffee with maca – yum!) and Sassy (pomegranate and hazelnut). We also tried their newest kinds, and while I was honestly a bit unsure of the….at first, it turns out it is amazing! One of the things I love about Zazubean is that their chocolate is dark (at least 70%) so it’s full of antioxidants and I feel good eating it. Healthy chocolate? Yes, please. The company was started by some amazing women out in BC (woohoo!) and everything is organic and fair-trade, with social responsibility and the environmental impact being big factors to Zazubean. I love supporting this company. Make sure you pick up one of their bars the next time you spot them! I’ve found them in Superstore and Loblaws as well as natural health food stores.
So, this concludes the latest edition of my favourite eco-friendly Canadian companies, Part II. Make sure to enter the giveaway below so you can try out these amazing eco Canadian goods yourself.
