Lately, K has been all about animals and just loves using imaginative play to be a “pet doctor.” He is a huge animal fan and has a special fondness for dogs. We recently picked up a thrifted veterinarian coat for him and he just loves it, so I knew he would be SO excited to also have some animals to help. I couldn’t wait to give him this Battat B.Toys Pet Vet set. His face lit up the second he saw it and he couldn’t wait to start “fixing” the little animals that came with it. So far, the little cat and dog that came with it have been cured of numerous ailments and broken bones and spent a few nights each in the veterinarian hospital. He’s also insisted on bringing the included animals’ medical tools with us on outings, like grocery shopping, just in case we encounter any animals that need help. To say this set is a hit would be an understatement.
Eco-Friendly Toys
We first discovered B.Toys when K was an infant and I was looking for a good rubber block set. I came across the One Two Squeeze set at our local Target, which became an instant favourite, for both stacking and chewing:) I’ve since become a fan of this company not only because of their great quality and simple toys but also because of their commitment to sustainability. B.Toys is big on using recycled materials, like packing toys in reusable bags. Even the case used for the rubber block set we have is made out of recycled PP plastic. Boxes can also become trays to hold tiny treasures and some packages can be reversed to turn into gift wrap. Awesome. Also, all of the inks they use are soy-based and any varnishes are water-based. Plus, every single bit of clear plastic is recyclable.
Pet Vet Set
We just recently picked up the B.Ready beach toy set, which is getting major use so far this summer, so I couldn’t wait for K to have another fun toy from the same company. The Pet Vet set can help keep him busy inside on rainy days, but also be brought outside on nice days (or to the grocery store too, apparently). I’m not joking when I say it has so far come everywhere with us. He’s a highly imaginative child to begin with, so this is the perfect toy for open-ended play.
The set comes with two plush patients – the cat and dog – and matching x-rays. This has been so much fun for him so far as he first examines the patients on the slide-out exam table and then takes their x-rays.
There are four private rooms with colour-match keys as well, which is great for learning and matching up colours as well as fine motor skills since each key is different.
He then uses the included vet tools – stethoscope, syringe, thermometer, and scale – to determine what exactly is wrong with his little patients so he can help fix them. Every night, the animals get put back into their respective rooms and wait for their little veterinarian to come get them in the morning.
We are so happy with all of B.Toys products and this one is no exception. I know that even once K outgrows it eventually, our new baby girl will get a ton of use out of it as well, and it is one of those good quality toys that can be passed on and on. It nurtures the imagination and creativity, which is what we’re always looking for when it comes to toys. No batteries, no flashing lights, just simple, open-ended fun that stimulates the mind and provides for hours of fun.
This definitely won’t be the last B.Toy we bring into the house. From stacking blocks, to musical instruments, to art supplies and water toys, they have a huge range of items. To check out the great lines, head on over to the B.Toys website. In the U.S., you can find their toys online at Amazon.com or at Target, and in Canada, check out Mastermind Toys.
