When it comes to postpartum care for mamas, there are so many things I wish I had known beforehand. While books and friends and family can help prepare you, there are inevitably many things that you’ll discover on your own, including the not-so-glamourous items you’ll likely need. Things like a peri squirt bottle, big maxi pads (frozen ones work well too!) and mesh undies can be your best friends for those first days after giving birth. This time around, I felt more prepared for postpartum care having gone through it once already. I made sure I had all of my postpartum essentials in advance, including nipple butter and other all natural healing products.
Earth Mama Angel Baby is one of my absolute favourite natural, eco-friendly companies for mom and baby care. I highly recommend their all-natural nipple butter, which was my saving grace, especially with my first baby. I much prefer this over the conventional cream most hospitals recommend. It is incredibly healing and absorbs very well. I also drank their teas all throughout both pregnancies and am still drinking the Calm Mama tea. When it comes to baby care, they are one of my go-tos for top natural baby items. Postpartum healing with Earth Mama Angel Baby products makes healing from birth easier, so when they offered to send me some wonderful postpartum items, I couldn’t wait to try them out.
I think I was most excited about trying the booby tubes. I’d heard about these unique gel-free breast packs before and they have been SO helpful for me. I really think they have made breastfeeding the second time less painful and easier for me. Made with a 100% organic cotton shell and filled with all-natural flax seed, you can use them warm or cold. I heat the pads in the microwave for 20-40 seconds and use them for 5 minutes prior to feeding to encourage milk flow, help prevent clogged ducts and promote let-down. They are also great for helping with any symptoms of infection. If you don’t have a microwave, you can heat them up in the oven on the lowest setting, putting them in an oven-safe dish for 10-15 minutes. I place them in the freezer while I nurse and then take them out to wear after and in between feedings. The cold packs really help reduce any swelling as well as tenderness from engorgement. The pads were especially great for the first couple of weeks once my milk came in and I got used to breastfeeding again. I am a huge booby tube fan!
I also tried out the healing bottom spray and bottom balm. Both of these are designed to help heal the bottom part of moms after giving birth. Hey, we go through a lot to bring our babes into this world! The spray is a cooling, soothing perineal mist that helps ease discomfort of postpartum vaginal soreness and swelling, episiotomies and hemorrhoids. Not only is it made with all-natural ingredients, including astringent witch hazel, antibacterial lavender, and cooling peppermint pure essential oils, but it’s free of all parabens and preservatives. I found this really helped as well and can be very useful for any sort of tears or soreness. The bottom balm works in conjunction with the healing spray to help with vaginal swelling and bruising, perineal tears and episiotomies. It’s made with 100% natural herbs, like St. John’s wort, Yarrow, Witch hazel, and Calendula. Plus, the balm isn’t JUST for mamas – it’s great for anyone with bottom problems!
Recovering from birth can be tough and exhausting, both physically and emotionally. Making sure you’re healing physically can definitely help the recovery journey over-all. I was very thankful to have a stash of amazing, all natural postpartum healing supplies this time around. They made physical healing that much quicker and easier. We go through a lot to bring another human being onto this earth and it’s important we look after ourselves and also help out all of our mama friends with new babies.
I’m excited to be giving away a selection of Earth Mama Angel Baby postpartum supplies to one lucky mama. Included are: booby tubes, healing bottom spray, and bottom balm. The contest is open to residents of the U.S. or Canada, ages 18 and up.
