What’s one of the first things you think of when you hear the word St. Patrick’s Day? Green, of course! While we’re not Irish, we still like to take part in the celebrations, which always includes a delicious green drink. Many green food and drink trecipes you’ll find online are full of dyes and food colourings, which we prefer to steer clear of and instead use natural ingredients to help colour the food. And smoothies are one of the easiest items to make green! I’ve included recipes here for green shamrock smoothies for St. Patrick’s day – two ways. One is our favourite tropical green smoothie and the other is a more decadent dessert-type matcha green tea shake. You can easily sub out the matcha for avocado to make it kid-friendly – it will just change up the green hue a bit. Enjoy!
Tropical Green Smoothie
Ingredients:
- 1 cup chopped Fresh or Frozen Kale
- 1 cup chopped Frozen Mango
- 1 large or 1 1/2 medium Banana (I used frozen)
- 1 cup frozen Peaches
- 1 cup chopped Pineapple (I used frozen)
- 1 tbsp Lime juice
- 1 tbsp Chia seeds
- 1 tbsp Maple syrup
Method:
Add all ingredients into a blender, add enough water to cover up to the peaches and blend until smooth. If you’re using mostly frozen ingredients, like I did, a high-powered blender works best.
Green Shamrock Shake
Ingredients:
- 1 cup Frozen Banana
- 1 cup Almond or Coconut milk
- 2-3 big scoops Vanilla frozen yogurt
- 1-2 tsp Matcha green tea powder (I used asp, but adding more will make it even brighter green)
- 1 tsp Maple syrup
Method:
Add all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. You can also replace the matcha with half an avocado to make it kid-friendly.
They both sound delicious! Thanks for sharing.
